Hunches in Bunches
By dish

Clip to ScrapBook
I've really thought about this one but this is a hard book to get a lot of lessons from! Here's what I've come up with:

relate book to your instruction of digraph "ch" and use it to help make list of ch words

compare
and contract the "hunches" w/ the grinch

discuss internal dialogue and how this helps/hinders everyone make good decisions - tie in w/ your character ed lessons on respect, honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility

Use cooperative learning structures to promote decision making and discuss that it's OK to be different from friends. Try this one:

Four Corners
1. discuss literature

or any other content area that lends itself to thinking about choices
2. announce where to meet in corners of room and what choice each corner represents
3. allow think time and proceed
4. groups pair up to tell why they made this choice
5. each group picks a spokesperson
6. spokesperson shares w/ class

Hope that gives you a little inspiration!
Trish
