Scientific Method
By Carrie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I observed a teacher introducing the scientific method to fifth graders by callin them "Scientist in Training." She did an experiment with different types of paper towels.(Bounty, Sparkle, and an off brand) She asked
the students to think of a question they would like answered by using these paper towels. (fyi-the students chose to see which paper towel was the strongest, the cheap or Bounty?) She then went step by step of the scientific method to determine which was stronger. She actually cliped the paper towel strands (2" wide) to the dry erase board and clipped a small plastic cup to the bottom,
wet the paper towels(same amount of water on each) then added pennies to the cups. The students (who didn't know which paper towel was which) counted the pennies. The paper towels then began to break one by one. The one that held the most amount of pennies was the strongest. Sorry, I'm getting carried away with the activity. However, she introduced the steps of the scientific method individually, step by step as they went with the experiement. I hope this helps you.
