Hi Michele- I would still try using switches, if you can. I'm guessing that your kids don't really "play"-maybe more mouthing or stimming with toys? Anyway, using switches can be a great way to teach cause/effect skills| and begin play skills. There are a lot of computer programs that you can activate by touching any key on the computer...if you have computers too. My kids love these! I've gotten most of them at local stores that sell software (much cheaper than the specialty catalogs!). They include Jumpstart, Reader rabbit, Winnie the Pooh, etc. all with "baby" or "toddler" in the title. Many of | | them also allow for mouse use. In circle we have done things like the picture activity you do, as well as movement to music, body part movement/ID, songs to learn about familiar items like toys, eating utensils, clothing items, etc. Do you know the song :Everyone loves Ice Cream"? I adapt that to learn different items. Also activities which encourage them to pass things to each other (beginning social skills).....I'll keep thinking!! Lots of sensory art activities are good too!
