snacktime
By Avery

Clip to ScrapBook
My students have a snack every day. Depending upon the time we go to lunch will decide whether snack is a.m. or p.m. In our school each child is responsible for their own snack. We are a title 1 school - the lowest income
and highest number of students on free and reduced lunch. (Most are free). I always have some pretzels or animal crackers for those who do not bring it in. I have learned however that if the kids really like what type of snacks I have they ALL have a tendency to NEVER have snack. So, I stick to something basic. They can choose to have mine or it could be a no-thank you day. Snack
lasts about 10-15 minutes. Some days we have "working snacks." The kids are fine with this. Those kids who have things to make up or catch up- have working snacks also. Many ask for a working snack. So, I do feel like these days are more productive. I do believe that the kids need a break. I do too. So whenever I want to keep them working...I just remember we all need breaks.
