plants By Sari

I am a TERRIBLE gardener, but I have had good success with both China dolls and philodendrons. They are both inexpensive at stores such as Target and K-Mart. Philos get loooong tendrils that can be cut off and replanted| (just put them in water until new roots form, then put them new pots). China dolls cannot be separated and replanted, but they do grow into little trees if you repot them into larger and larger containers. Does your room have running water? If so, water deeply less frequently. If not, have students water daily. Smaller pots need less water more often. Bigger pots can retain more | | moisture and need deeper watering less often. (Or so I've read--as I said, I'm a terrible gardener.)You may want to rotate the plants every week or so, especially if some locations are closer to your windows. That way no one plant gets stuck in the sunniest or the shadiest spot all the time. Silk plants are fine, too, but live plants increase the oxygen and provide something for students to care for. (I let students take home the class plants over holidays.) Good luck this year.
