Clip to ScrapBook
I did something similar to the previous poster. Since the reading levels in my class always vary so greatly, and the reading and vocab. in WR is good but often challenging, we usually do it together as a class. Sometimes
I will let them read with a partner. They never know as we are reading whether I will be requiring them to complete the ques. on the back for a grade or not. Sometimes instead of requiring the ques. we'll just discuss the articles, other times I have a "pop quiz". I'll ask a ques. and pull out a popsicle stick with a student's name on it. They have 10 seconds to come up with the correct
answer (they can look back) or else I go on to someone else. I'll give a piece of candy for correct answers.
I also use WR periodically for working with main ideas. We work together to identify main ideas and turn them into sentences. After we've practiced this a few times, I will ask them to do this on their own or with a small group as we read. It's a great way to see who's got it and who needs help.
