Clip to ScrapBook
I haven't read the F and P book, but I can tell you what I do. I use literature circles only 1-2 times during a school year - and it takes several weeks to complete (about 3). I use it everyday during those 3 weeks. The
independant portion is done daily - with their groups. The guided reading is not done with the literature circles - I do that with whole class novels the rest of the year (with the exception of 2 times when they all have individual books they read in-between class novels). For reading homework, I give them whatever they didn't finish in class. If they were supposed to read 2 chapters
that day (for shorter chapters) and they only finished 1 1/2, then they have to do the other 1/2 that night. It keeps them on track better that way. I also always give reading that is required throughout the month, but that's whatever book they'd like. I require 400 minutes a month - they divide it up however they choose, then do an activity that goes along with it. But keep in mind that it's seperate from the lit. circles. I hope that makes sense!
