Jungle/rainforest theme
By Lenore

Clip to ScrapBook
I have decorated my classroom with the jungle theme and I am using the theme for my ELA. I teach K/1/2 and I have gathered stories to use that are related to the theme such as The Great Kapok Tree, Ten Little Monkeys and
I am also going to do something with Chicka ChickaBoom Boom. My Science unit is on animals so I will tie in the rainforest when we do habitats. I have found a few resources on the rainforest (books and on the net) as well as a webquest for K-2. I am going to use animals cracker cookies for a graphing activity in Math. I found lots of animal poems on the web and we will use these for
shared reading. I want to make rainsticks and maybe try to do some drum work in Arts Ed. I am really excited about my classroom, I made 2 large palmtrees for either side of the door, hung silk ferns over the entry and used a large net and draped it with ivy and crepe paper vines. I raided the toy box at home and found hanging monkeys and parrots. I hope the kids are as excited as I am. Hope this helps give you some ideas!
