I WORK IN LA By JS
|
|
I work for LAUSD, and actually, this will be my first year there. I'm moving from out of state! I am certified and started looking for a job in March. Despite the budget cuts and layoffs I was offered sooooooo many positions.| Despite the trouble, the state needs teachers. I got a job at a great school in a great area! Check the LAUSD webpage for starting salaries. Also, you DO get insurance for your WHOLE family and a lunch to yourself. I know a lot of the posters have mentioned to you the long hours of work. THis is a sore spot for a lot of teachers, including myself. People who don't teach do | | not realize the HOURS and HOURS we put in "off the clock." I never understood why teachers said they were underpaid and overworked until I became one. Yes, this is my summer off, but the whole month of August is going to be spent in meetings and trainings I have to attend. Plus, I'm moving to a new grade and have NO materials prepared for the new grade. Switching grades is sometimes like starting all over! Anyway, good luck to you. Email me if you have any questions. Private schools generally pay under 30,000 depending on the kind of school it is.
