bathroom
By Katy

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't do group bathroom times unless it's a field trip day. I have a sign up sheet that's divided up into a.m. and p.m. Similar to the last response, I don't allow children to leave during stories or instruction/meeting
times unless it's an emergency. (and I track those) During indep. work time, one boy and one girl can go at a time. This prevents too many "bathroom parties" as I call them. They sign the sheet, write the time they left (good way to practice telling time!) and check their name off with the time they returned and then the next person can go. I hold onto the sheets so if someone is going
more than 1x in the morning and 1x in the afternoon, I talk to them about it and if need be, talk to the parents. I also let children know the minimum amount of work I expect to be done during a work block. Going to the bathroom isn't an excuse to not get it done. If the work isn't done, they have to finish it before going to the next recess. This way, they manage their time and don't waste too much of it in the bathroom. It really worked pretty well after the kids got used to it. Good luck!
