    Our school does..

a Character-In-Action program. We have won many awards for it! Our guidance counselor was the one who gathered everything. It may be a lot to take on but let me try to explain it. Each month was a pre-determined character trait (respect, citizenship, honesty, etc...). During that month, there would be announcements in the morning about ways to show the "trait of the month." For example, the announcer would say, "This month's character trait is honesty. You can show honesty by returning the pencil to someone who let you borrow it."

Then students knew that all staff members were on the look out for students doing that trait. If you were "caught" you would get to fill out a shape (pre-cut aquarium shapes last year because our school's theme was Under The Sea) and your name would be read on the announcements. Then you went to the office and stapled your shape to a bulletin board in the hallway. Each grade level was a different shape.

Also every month the guidance counselor makes class visits. When she came, she "taught" about the trait of the month. Then teachers were given activities (i have no idea where they came from!) that they could also teach during the month (usually during health).

    I hope this helps!
