Building Blocks

Clip to ScrapBook
Did you purchase the book, Month-by-Month Reading and Writing for Kindergarten? If you haven't read that yet, go get it. It helped me a lot last year in my first year of teaching. I followed their ideas for each month,
especially their ideas for read alouds and predictable charts. One piece of advice: don't try to do a predictable chart in one day! (If you haven't read about predictable charts yet, it is a chart where you write a simple sentence like: I like to read. (Ms. Johnson) Then another student says: I like to swim. (Cody) You continue with all of your students' sentences starting out the
same way (predictable).) You will drive yourself crazy and your students will be bored to tears! On Monday, do half of your students' sentences. On Tuesday, do the other half of the students. On Wednesday, read aloud everyone's sentences and review, talk about capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. On Thursday, cut apart a couple of sentences and do sentence builders. On Friday, cut apart everyone's sentences and have them put them back together and illustrate their sentence for a class book. Hope this helps and didn't confuse you more. You can e-mail me if you have any other questions. Good luck.
