We get paid BY THE DAY!
By Connie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi to all you getting ready!

We get about a half day to get the room set up. This year we are all moving to a new building, so I will probably invest about 5-8 full days UNPAID.

Teachers! We are paid BY THE DAY!
We should be getting our pay just Sept. thru May or June, but the districts divide our salaries into twelve months. From a financial standpoint, teachers lose money because our money is kept from us and we can't make any interest on it. A long time ago, teachers were paid Sept thru June but those who couldn't manage money well ran out of funds in the summer so the state treats us like
children now. Your district actually makes money on the amount they get to hold back!

If you ran out of sick days and they docked your pay, you would see how much you make per day. Just take your contract amount and divide by the number of contracted days.

So, those of us who work hard to close out and then set up our rooms during the summer are doing it not because the district pays us to do it, but because we care about our jobs. Elementary teachers probably donate more time than anyone in this regards as we don't have coaching supplementals.
