Team Teaching is great! By Diana

I am going into my second year of team teaching at the 6th grade level. I wasn't quite sure how it would be since this was my first time teaching 6th grade and being a mentor to my teaching partner at the same time. But,| it worked out really well. My partner and I first decided what subjects each was going to teach. I chose LA, Reading, and Social Studies. She chose Math and Science. However, we collaboratively compiled weekly spelling lists from the content areas and taught spelling to our homerooms. This worked very well. My subjects were easily integratable as were hers. Secondly, we developed | | procedures and discipline together so that we would have consistency between both rooms as the students traded rooms. By working together and implementing the details, we had a great year. The only problem we really had was the fact that students had to share desks in each room. They had a homeroom, but also had textbooks and supplies in the other room. This was a nightmare: keeping clean desks, keeping supplies, losing papers, losing BOOKS! We were at our wits ends by May. We're thinking of leaving the textbooks on shelves and having the students get their books as the enter the room. We're not sure, its just an idea. I hope I've helped you. If anyone has any ideas on community desks, please reply!! Diana
