preK centers

Clip to ScrapBook
Typical centers you'd find in a preK room include dramatic play (dress up clothes, kitchen set, work bench, etc.); blocks (big wooden blocks &/or large cardborad blocks). There's often an art area and/or writing center where
children are allowed to be creative with assorted "stuff". Table toys can be a center which would have an assortment of toys and games that would be played on a tabletop. This is a good area to include manipulatives likes tiles, beads, buttons, etc. that can be used for sorting, stringing or making patterns. Library or reading centers where children can curl up with a book are always
nice areas that children can go to when they need to have a quieter activity. If you have computers for the children to use in the classroom, this could be another center. A sensory center is always a fun activity for the kids. This area would include playdough, rice and sand bins as well as a water table. If you have children who are learning letters and numbers, colors & shapes, you can create a game center area that has games specifically with these skills in mind. I made up a lot of these games or used "file folder" game ideas.
Hope this is enough to get you started. Another good idea is to talk to a fellow teacher in the same grade/school and ask her what she does. She may have some resources for you too!
