never had, but will By Chicago Teacher

Hi, I've taught 2 years and tried to use a star theme at the beginning of my first year teaching. My kids didn't really care about stars, and pretty much all it did was make me want to throw up now every time I see star items at the teacher store. I also tend towards being a little hyperactive and easily bored, so I figure my attention span is similar to my 1st/2nd grade students. If it seems like 100 years since I've made a change, my students are usually begging for one too. I like changing things up a lot, which does not lend itself to themes (since I don't have a million dollars to spend). I'm moving | | to Portland to start a new job in a few weeks, and I will be doing a theme this year, but only because I've been so bored this summer that I came up with something that seems to fit my situation perfectly and will let me be creative the way I like without spending tons of money and without doing anything overly time consuming like building my own furniture or creating a waterfall down my wall or something. Overall, though, I'd say that the obsession with themes lately on this board probably has to do with the need to feel like you're doing something to get ready for next year. I don't think it's either necessary or bad though, just a preference for how to spend the summer.
