Meetings
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
Congratulations on making it to student teaching! I am also going to be student teaching this fall (first and fourth-grades). I am very excited and nervous. One thing I would recommend (that has really helped me feel more
comfortable) is that you meet with each of your cooperating teachers before the school year starts. Maybe you, too, could contact each of your mentors to see if you could meet with them in the classroom in which you will be working. This will give you the opportunity to observe the classroom and the materials with which you will be using. Also, this would give you the chance to ask the
teachers if there are any curriculum materials you could borrow to review. Both of my mentor teachers lent me the texts we will be teaching from. My second placement teacher pointed out where she thought her class would be in each text when I arrived in October.
I am planning on helping my first-grade cooperating teacher open up her classroom the week before school starts. Again, this will give me another opportunity to get to know the teacher and discover the materials in her classroom.

All of the meetings I have had with each of my mentor teachers has helped me to feel a little more relaxed about starting my student teaching experience. I am not starting out completely in the dark. Ask lots of questions.

Good luck!
