2nd grade centers

Hi Rene,
This will be my 4th year teaching 2nd. I have centers four days a week(m-th), in the mornings during guided reading. I have done this several ways, it all depends on how independent your class is. One way I
have done it is for the independent class. I post 6 centers that the students have to complete during the 4 days. You keep up the same centers for the entire week, no changing. Sometime while they are working I would call them over to guided reading. If they have completed all 6 centers early (some do by the 4th day) then they get to choose a variety of other activities to do. Centers

this way lasts an hour and 20 minutes.
For the not so independent class I have a rotation of 4 centers, including guided reading with me. The centers are 20 minutes in length and they need to have them all completed by the end of that morning. If not then they have to finish it at home for homework (if it is a center that has to be graded). You have more of a variety of centers throughout the week if you do it this way.
