Red Folder
By Gail

Clip to ScrapBook
On the left side of the pocket folder I put a math page with the specific facts that we are studying. We use the Saxon Math program so there are several weeks where we continue to study the very same facts. I have a page
titled The Dandy Doubles with the facts typed out in a row with the answer. On the right side of the page students or sometimes I'll do it,fold the edge to cover the answers. Then all they have to do is read the math facts orally and say the answer. This is to be nightly homework to help them memorize these facts. Students also get individual math card facts which they keep inside the
plastic pencil pouch.Of course you could use a ziploc baggie instead and just put it, or even an envelope with the facts,
inside the folder pocket. This gives 2 different ways of studying the facts. Then on the right side of the red pocket folder I staple a half sheet with the weekly spelling words. And right beside this list I staple a half sheet with all the weekly reading vocabulary words. I want the students to read these words orally with mom/dad so that by Friday maybe they can read them quidkly for me. In Texas, oour first graders need to reading 60 wpm, by the end of the year. This helps me address that skill. And I do have the students read the words individually to me every Friday for a grade. Then the next week, I just continue stapling the next pages inside the folder. You really dont't have to staple. Other teachers I teach with just put them inside. I just don't want anything lost so I'm more controlling. I hope this has helped you.
