may I add... By not a veteran

I am not a veteran teacher or veteran job hunter, but I'd like to add something to Connie's wonderful posts. Do your homework on the district & school. Most schools have some sort of web site that you can browse through| to see what their phylosophy and interests are. Be sure to check out areas that include news releases and PTO or School Board minutes. I have always had good reactions/responses from interviewers when I can say: "I noticed on your web site that the district is planning......" It shows that you've done some homework and have at least some technology ability. Also, I have used this board | | to get information on unfamiliar teaching techniques or styles that are referred to on the site. This came in handy during a recent interview. I knew enough about the method (from my ProTeacher friends)that I was able to give an educated response without looking totally baffled. Another suggestion would be to include photos in your portfolios. The few times that I actually had anyone look at my portfolio, they usually just flipped politely, but were attracted by the photos. They would stop & look and I would take that opportunity to jump in with something like: "Oh, that was my favorite unit. We were learning about animals and this is a picture of the wall length bulletin board that we added to each day....." Each picture has a caption explaining what was going on in the picture or how it relates to learning skills, etc. Sometimes if there are multiple interviewers, one may be looking at it while the other is talking to you, so you want them to have an understanding of the what or why without you having to explain. I recently accepted an offer, so maybe if these ideas worked for me, they'll work for you. Good Luck!
