relax.....

Clip to ScrapBook
Don't worry too much right now about what to prepare. Many things for kindergarten can be used in grade one and vice versa.

Borders, general displays, math manipulatives, etc., are all things that can be used in either
grade.

There will be some things out of the workshops that you will be able to modify for grade 1.

It is frustrating when you can't get into the mind-set of the grade you'll be teaching, but keep looking at the bright side of having that first position.

Other things you might be able to work on....

- pick themes you could use in either grade
- rhymes, fairy tales, bears,

families, colours, etc., and pick up general decorating items for them.
- take a look at resource books that are geared for K to 3 or K to 2
- collect things like magazines, calendars, posters, etc., to build a picture collection or have for art projects, etc.
- plan out your first few days of school with general plans - most of the time we do things quite similar in both grades for the first few days. - going on a school tour, going into the playground and discussing playground rules and safety, playing get to know you games, etc.,

Hopefully you'll learn of the decision earlier and can get more focused again. But have fun with all the little things for now until you know which grade to prepare for specifically.

Oh yes a few other ideas
- birthday chart - how will you celebrate birthdays
- calendar wall, weather wall (done in both ECS and grade 1 and sometimes even still in grade 2)
- student of the week
- first week read out-louds

If you do not have to move classrooms you can set up your desk, the reading corner, library area, listening center, and then add depending on which grade you get.
