poem idea that would need to be preprinted and copied for each child.
It's my first day of kindergarten
And I'm thinking of you.
I made this precious handprint
So you'll think of me, too.
It's my first day of school
And "The Kissing Hand" is what we read.
It's about a raccoon
Who did just as his parents said.

I was scared and a little shy.
But because of what you said
I was brave and I got by.

All through the year
I'll make more things for you.
So as I change and as I learn

If you preprint this in the middle of a page horizontally, the students can stamp their handprint on each side using a huge inkpad or tempra paint. Add the date, and this will become a parent's favorite piece of artwork! You could even add a thumbprint border

Otherwise, you might want to make a class book. Preprint This is _____________'s hand. The student would fill in their name on their page. Then, they could stamp their handprint on the page. You could have them glue a mini-heart cut out to the palm(particularly easy if you have an Ellison machine at your school). A front and back cover would be added and all pages would be laminated and bound into a class book. A great way to kick off the idea of publishing and adding to the classroom library. Why you could add a library pocket and sign out card. Students could take turns "checking the book out" and sharing with their families.
