Jobs are hard to find... By Anne

I am very frustrated with my job prospects. I have been subbing for 5 years and really like where I live. I am not willing to get up and move half way across the country. My reason...?? I am close to my family and simply| do not want to move to Texas or California or New York. I love the Midwest. I was told that History teaching jobs would open up soon after I graduated in 1998. I admit I didn't think it would take this long. I have been able to survive on a substitite's income. I am single and it is not easy but I do it. I work another job as well and believe me I get tired of it and want my own | | classroom. I am in a very competitive area in Wisconsin and I "look" every day for a job. I hate to travel too far but willing if I have to.. Simple stated there are no Secondary Social Studies jobs where I am at. I interviewed for a temp english job and I thought it went well. I would have liked to have gotten the job. It is who you know. The former principal's daughter got the job and she knew the other teachers in the block. I know all of them too. I am told that it is timing and she was a better match. It is still frustrating. So I start subbing next week and hope something will turn around again soon. It's easy for someone to say "Why don't you just move?" I have thought about it many times but it also takes time and $$ to go out and get another state's licensure. I have two state licenses already. I also get very tired when someone asks me what I do and I tell them and they say..."Oh I am sorry, do you want to teach full-time?" Duh!! I do.Anyway......it is good to see that I am not the only one out there.... Good luck in the job search!!
