Hang in there!!!

HI!

You have to hang in there. I am with you! I graduated with my bachelors in Dec. 2001 and began subbing. I subbed for the remainder of the year, EVERY DAY. No I didn't know anyone in the district. This led me to
get a phone call in August for a maternity leave position. I filled a 5th grade position for the whole year and then my asst. principal was promoted to principal of an elem. building. I went with her and filled another full year replacement position, 3rd grade. My reviews and everything went wonderfully. She even told me that I was ready for a probationary and that I worked to hard
to be a replacement position. Now this was in one of those districts that everyone says doesn't hire their subs. But everything went so well for me I was sure it was going to be an exception. I was wrong!!!! What a blow. A probationary position did not come for next year. I decided this was it for this district, I was done. Although, not happy I left on very pleasant terms. I decided that I would sub for next year if I didn't find a position. Well I was just hired today by a small district, for a teaching asst. position. I had hoped to get a classroom teaching position, but didn't find one, but the superintendent said that's where he sees me next year. I got such a good sense about the building and people that I can deal with just being a teaching asst. for a year. I'll tell you that my experience is what landed me this position so quickly. I was called right after the interview and hired. While filling those replacement positions didn't get me a probationary position in that district, I did walk away with actual teaching experience and many places are looking for that. My advice would be to get out and sub, but not at too many districts. You have to get experience to go along with your degree. By the way, I am also in upstate NY, Albany!!!
