skipping 4th grade By Younster

This is exactly what I did when I was in school. I went to a private school for kindergarten and then transferred to public school. I was always ahead of the other students and went to the next grade for reading and eventually| for math. Finally my parents decided it made more sense for me simply to skip fourth grade since I had already done the reading and math. You say "If this does not work out...." Is there some reason you think it might not? Since his parents have pushed the issue, I assume they will provide any academic support he might need. The bigger concern would be his socialization skills. |
| I already knew many of the students in my fifth-grade class because I had been going ahead for three years. But while before I had been sort of their "pet," once I was in their regular class all the time, their attitudedhink it might not? Since his parents have pushed the issue, I assume they will provide any academic support he might need. The bigger concern would be his socialization skills. I already knew many of the students in my fifth-grade class because I had been going ahead for three years. But while before I had been sort of their "pet," once I was in their regular class all the time, their attitudeds changed a bit. However, looking back on it I think a lot of it was that fifth-grade girls start to get interested in clothes and music and things, and I simply wasn't interested. (This was mostly my personality, not my youth.) I don't think this would be as much of a problem for a boy. Anyway, I made new friends and did just fine academically. (In fact, I was on the honors track through high school.)I'm sorry this post is so long. I could ramble forever on some subjects. I would suggest that you not worry unless you observe that this boy is not fitting in. He may not do "just fine," but I suspect he will recover from any difficulties he may face. E-mail me if you want to discuss this issue any further. Once the school year starts, you may have more questions. Just put Pro-Teacher in the subject line so I don't delete your e-mail! Good luck.
