routines and procedures

1. They will complete morning work while I am taking attendance. Student helper takes attendance cards to office.

2. We start at precisely 8:05, and they should have everything put aside so that we can check the morning
work.

3. Math homework is checked immediately after we check morning work.

4. We begin math. After math, we collect homework.

5. Bathroom should be used BEFORE we start math in the morning as the students come in. Otherwise, they will ask to use the bathroom during math class. I figure that if they have already been to the bathroom, then they can't wiggle out of doing

work by going to the bathroom.

6. I have one student helper per 12 students in my class. Student helpers are chosen each week. Student helpers are assigned to help teacher in any way necessary: collect homework, advise teacher of who does not have homework, take up attendance cards, do office announcements, help me keep an eye out for problem students (such as throwing objects), run errands to the office, etc.

7. Students are expected to work silently at their seats when doing independent work. It is okay to talk when doing group work, as long as the group remains on task. Students are not permitted to talk while they are taking tests. They are also not allowed out of their seats for any reason while students are taking a test. Once I have collected all papers, then students may move around a bit, if that is necessary.

8. Students are expected to complete homework assignments every night in math and spelling. Other assignments may be given, such as projects, reports, etc.

9. Tests/quizzes are given every week in every subject area to collect grades and assess student progress.

10. Students have assigned seats in the cafeteria where they are to sit each day. I keep these seats the same way all year, unless I have a problem with an individual student.

11. I attempt to solve all problems with students in the classroom first, then contact the parents if I can't resolve the problem. If I can't resolve the problem after a phone or personal conference with parents, I will begin sending the student to the office with a referral.

There are many other things I do in my day. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
