Pen Pals
By JR

Clip to ScrapBook
Amy,
Two pen pals will be a great idea if you can keep up. You could even have the students do a comparsion of what the kids like to do in Japan and Texas.
Here is the way I had thought that we could do the pen pals.
1.
We start school on Aug. 18 with the kids the whole week. The week that you start school I can have my kids write letters to your class addressing only as pen pal. I will send you the name of the students and boy or girl information at that time. At that time you can assisn my students to your students. I need your school address
2. In the first letter the students will ask
questions about your school, state/ things that they like to do. Your class will answer my class.
3. I don't want this to be a tiresome job for either of us. I would like to write 3-5 times a year. After your class writes us back we would write back sometime in Oct. It would be great if you could send us some fall leaves then because we don't generally have a fall.
4. Then we will send you Christmas Cards in early Dec/ you could do the same for us.
5. In jan if you get snow it would be nice to have some pictures since most of the kids have never seen snow. We'll write you in Jan and you send us something in Feb. We will write back in March before going on spring break. Since April is our high risk test taking time for the 3rd grade we won't write you until the end of April or early May. At this time we will send you postcards of our state and little things to remember Texas-stickers,bookmarks, key chains or something for each student along with pictures of myself/ the class doing different activities. You would do the same for my class
If kids move in/out during the year I will notify you of the change.
How does that sound to you? That way if you wanted to write your Pen Pal in Japan more often then you would have the time.

I usually tie in the proper way to write a letter as a lesson before we write. The kids write on notebook paper which they decorate after writing their letter.
I thought it would be fun for you and I to be pen pals and write letters to each other while the kids are writing theirs. Let me know what you think
