parking and what subs like to see
By altateach

Clip to ScrapBook
Dear Trish and Denise....good points! You made me think of a time I got so embarrassed lol. Some years ago I had a parking # at a school and parked. Well low and behold I had parked in THE PRINCIPAL'S SPOT!!! (omg!) I had
never been to the school before and of course (as expected) adm found me and told me not to park there. I apologized profusely and moved my car very quickly.

For the most part until I know for a fact subs can park in the lot I put myself out on the street far enough away so I don't block parents etc. Funny though, even in the school where I am a regular I don't park in the lot as for

some reason I don't think I should. Many times where the spot is assigned and the teacher has been kind enough to tell me I find the spot filled!

What do I like to see in the classroom and the school. The NICEST think I encounter and love is when adm does the morning announcements and mentions the names of the "guest" teachers. That is excellent. In the class I like to see things the way I would leave them. I'm not a neato freak but I love it when everything is in neat piles with sticky notes on them or a very useful plan. I understand most teachers don't have time for this.

What really makes me want to go back is a teacher that actually cares about that day away (several really don't seem to or give a toot if someone with half a brain came in!). This teacher tends to leave not much by way of plans or expectations.

"PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADJUST THE PLANS AS YOU NEED TO" SHOWS me I am in a classroom with a flexible teacher who sees me as her equal. I love it when people take the time to ask me my name and not call me 'THE SUB" right in front of me. I like a seating plan and plse keep the attendance in the same pile.

I find when I am this well treated it sparks me to work even harder. I never leave until the work is done but in the schools where I am treated well I have stayed and done extra work...Also remember to post a supervision schedule by your desk.

What I really don't like is when it is obv that the teacher has gone out of her way to a) stick me with other people's supervision b) took a prep I really could have used to mark her work and made it fairly obv I was being stretched.
