I just thought you might like to try a compromise that would up the ante of the test, but no too much. I do a 50/25/25 split with most of my subjects. You could do tests 50%, labs 25%, and homework 25%. I was feeling the same kind of dilemna you are. I help so much with classwork, and I know parents help with homework which is a good thing because the more help they get the more they learn, but I also wanted to test their knowledge more. So this was my answer. Hope it helps.
