I also use some time over the summer to do as much "prep work" for the upcoming year as possible. For example, I sketch my room layout (I like to change it yearly), I buy any materials I think I need (ex. nameplates), I create blank spreadsheets for the upcoming year, etc. That way when that dreaded first teacher workday comes I don't feel overwhelmed with all I have to accomplish which would lead me to be verrry cranky and would start my year on a sour note. I know that this reply goes against the grain of the thread, but I wanted to put my two cents in!
