End of Grade Testing
By NC Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I have just finsihed teaching my second year of third grade in North Carolina. Prior to graduating from college I did subbing in Farifax, VA and was present for several SOL test prep days. In NC we have a similar test
called the EOG. In third grade if students do not pass the EOG they do not pass the grade. Hopefully the knowledge I gained with a similar test can help you.

*While we spend a large portion of our time practicing "test taking strategies" the kids don't always see it as such. We work on reading stratgies with novels that they love, magazine articles that they find interesting,

social studies texts that they can realate to, etc. We then assess their understanding of this material by presenting them with "EOG stemmed" questions (questions that are similar to what they will see on the EOG). So while this is still "test prep" it is in an authentic context.

*We play games that prepare the kids for testing in math. Mathardy was a favorite this year (Set up being the same as Jeopardy). And again we created our questions by incoprorating EOG type questions.

These are just a few ideas that we used. If you are interested I can give you more, just let me know!
