Clip to ScrapBook
Hi:

For two years, I taught in a Catholic school but am not Catholic. Like you, I am a Christian and have many of the same values that Catholics do. I am very much a religious minority in my community. However, I accepted
a position last year in the public school for several reasons. None of my reasons were because of unkindness or an unaccepting attitude from the faculty or parents.

I taught in a very small school where I was the only 5th grade teacher. One of the things I enjoyed about being at the Catholic school was the freedom to discuss Jesus Christ and other subject matter that cannot be

discussed in the public schools. I did not teach the religion class, but switched with another teacher in another grade while she taught my religion class.

It was different at first going to mass with my class, but I was not asked to participate in the mass in any way. I only went to accompany my class. I certainly gained an appreciation for the Catholic religion.

One thing I am sure you will enjoy and appreciate is the discipline and respect level. I have certainly noticed a difference between the Catholic and public schools. At least at my previous school, the students were far more respectful and for the most part, came from secure, loving families. Not the case in the public schools on average.

I think you will find it a rewarding year. I would not understand a faculty at a Catholic school who was not accepting of another's religion.

Best wishes!
