There is a great book put out by The Mailbox. It is called "Social Studies - 23 Ready-To-Go Lesson Plans". There is one for each grade level in elem. school. It has the lessons grouped by theme or topic. The lesson shows the skill, amount of time needed, what preparations are necessary, the materials needed, and usually gives some type of background information. The lesson plan is scripted, includes some type of worksheet and usually has 3 or 4 extension activities for each lesson. It is an invaluable resource for new teachers and is wonderful for when you have a substitute! The website is www.themailbox.com. Good luck!
