Although I doubt it was ever intended for this purpose, you could certainly use Excel to do this (if you have Microsoft Office programs, you probably have Excel). Basically it's a spreadsheet program, but it will do all sorts of fun things (I use it to make my lesson plan book.) what you can do to make the text, dates, whatever vertical is to highlight the cells, go to the format menu, choose cell, and then go to alignment. On that screen you will see an area called orientation. It is very easy to set the text to vertical or even to a diagonal (you can choose the degree of the angle). These directions sound a bit complicated, but you'll see it couldn't be easier. You can easily add information, add the actual line by making cell border lines appear and more. If you have questions, I'd be happy to help.
