I just posted an idea for a "friendship web" on the 1st grade board, that could work for you.
Our school is using "Responsive Classroom" morning meetings with a daily group activity. Some of them are great and sound like exactly what you are looking for. I don't know if there is a book available without taking the classes, you may want to check for a website for further info.
