what I'm doing

Clip to ScrapBook
My state is divided into counties and within those counties are schools districts that cover a specific area. I'm sure it's similar everywhere. Some of the counties have "consortiums" or "networks" where the districts have
a united web site that lists the openings for that county. You fill out one on-line job application and indicate to which schools you want it forwarded in response to which jobs. Out here, all the districts are going on-line and aren't even accepting paper resumes unless they have something already on-line from you! If you don't know if such things exist in NYC, call the districts
(or schools) that you would be interesting in talking to and simply ask them how to apply. Not all openings are going to be listed on-line or in the papers. Some teacher contracts specifically state that adminstration must try to fill openings from within before posting them for public.
I currently have my application registered in 5 counties. I have a list of the school districts within those counties I'd be willing to teach at (some are just too far to travel to). I have the web sites for these districts or consortiums flagged, so on a regular basis, I go in & check out their latest postings. Depending on what their procedures are, I apply for anything I'm eligible for. It may be a simple mouse click or a letter of interest.
Do you have the ability to go through a college placement service? That's another option!
Good Luck!
