watch your foot! By teacher

I did the same thing, but accepting a spec ed position in primary. I have an "endorsement" in Spec ed, but not a degree and really wanted to teach in a "regular" classroom. I figured I'd get my foot in the door first & move| on from there. It didn't work for me. When I indicated that I didn't want to teach spec ed anymore, that I would like to move on to a regular classroom, I was told that there were no openings. My being honest affected the "professional atmosphere" between adminstration, some of my co-workers & myself, if you get my drift; I felt 'shut out' for the last months of the school year. Rather | | than return to a job I did not enjoy (& where my presence didn't seem accepted) I left. I was not yet tenured & figured it was best to move on & out and start over someplace else. Of course, I'm still looking for that place! But don't go by just my experince. I have a friend who played a similar game and got the job she wanted the following year! I'd suggest that you keep your eyes and ears open for that other opening and act fast when you see it. In the mean time, be the best teacher you know how to be, but don't make yourself so invaluable that they won't want to lose you!
