Turtle Ideas
By Tracci

Clip to ScrapBook
Hello there. I posted below about turtles. Let me see if I can help you with turtle ideas. I have a turtle theme in my 4th grade classroom. I love turtles. I bought a turtle bulletin board set from Holcombs. It came with
trophies, a large turtle and boy and girl turtles. I wrote "Look who's coming out of their shells to help" next to the big turtle. I got this idea from the kit. I wrote the jobs on the four trophies. I then wrote the boys and girl's names on the boy and girl turtles. This was great for my job board. We changed it weekly. I used an extra boy turtle for the boy's bathroom pass and an extra
girl turtle for the girl's bathroom pass. For your behavior board, you can use pocket cards with a turtle on the front of each one. Then number the pocket cards (put the numbers 1-25 (I have 25 students) on the turtle. You can use slips of paper in each pocket. Blue = good behavior,
Green = First warning, Yellow = Second warning (note sent home), Red = No recess and go to the office (note/call home). I am thinking of doing this behavior system this year. For accelerated reading, you could title it "S.h.e.l.l." Silent Hour Enjoying & Loving Literature... I used this for my D.E.A.R. time last year. My students loved the name. It is something different. I also had a turtle light that I bought at Meijers that I turned on during "Shell."

For your student picture board, maybe "Look who's in the Shell-light" instead of spotlight? I am just trying to think of ideas. Sorry if they are a bit cheesy! Race to the finish line with Spelling... (the turtle and the hare). I am stumped on the poetry board. Let me think for awhile. I need something that rhymes/goes with turtles. I will do a search. Have fun. I hope that this helps. Tracci
