Try a down-time list...

Last year was my first year teaching fourth grade. I dont know if you have the A.R. reading program at your school, but if you do you can encourage students to read during any downtime. I have a list of "if you finish early" activities posted in my classroom. They include read, clean out your desk, draw, finish any work you haven't already. Hope this helps!
