Hi Bridget!

First off, don't reinvent the wheel! If your school site has any other first grade teachers, just do what they do, lol!!!!

Next, take a look at your state's SS standards and see if there's a scope and sequence - that might help get you going.

Really, you will most likely cover all your bases by celebrating multicultural holidays, investigating some health and safety (I think handwashing is a big deal and what to do around strangers...), learning about patriotism (we do a Symbols of America unit that I love), and studying character traits (there's a nice selection of character education materials both online and at teacher stores).
