Here is the help you need
By Colleen

Clip to ScrapBook

JS Unlike 4'th graders these kids are babies. You need to remember that first graders need to know how to do everything. They are very slow and just when you get on a roll, they all have to go to the bathroom. You must
show them procedures for every tiny step. (from sharpening pencils, to lining up to showing them how to get ready to go home.) Leave lots of time the first day and week for these things. Be sure to find out early in the day how the kids get home... bus, car walk? If they don't know then you need to get help from the office. I add one subject per day. By the end of the week or two I have
covered everything and we are ready to move forward. Be sure if possible to plan reading/language arts and math as early in the day as possible. Leaving these subjects for the afternoon will not work with children this young. They get tired by the afternoon. I usually do Sci/SS or any arts and crafts at the end of the day. You are going to need every drop of patience you can muster the first few weeks. There is soooo much to think about but leave yourself a blank slate and being one step at a time filling it in.

Here is a super web site .....Good luck!
