Why not try combining art with your science background to come up with some ideas? There are several good online resources that can help. Try Kinderart or my site, The Imagination Factory, actually integrates art with science| to teach about solid waste management. Here's a little more about the site. Visitors learn how to make art using common, household trash as a source of free materials. Some of the activities include drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, papier-m’chÈ, marbling and crafts, and a special section for holiday art and crafts is featured. A Trash Matcher helps visitors find appropriate |
| art activities for the solid waste they have available, and a feature called the Badge Matcher allows Brownies, Girl Scouts and their leaders to quickly locate art activities that help satisfy badge requirements. Newly added is the Project Matcher, which is designed to match many of the siteís activities with 4-H projects, and those carried out for school social studies and science fairs. A discussion of landfills is located in the Education Department, and it's linked to "Trash a Pizza!" The activity shows visitors how to make a papier-m’chÈ model of a pizza with solid waste toppings. The pizza is divided into nine segments or categories, and the toppings or trash are reflective of the composition of American landfills.
