teaching decisions
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
I actually quit a job in the middle of a school year. Long story, and I won't bore you. The point is, if it isn't working for you it probably isn't working for your students, either. They're aware of your stress even if
they don't know the cause. So you have to be careful to evaluate how things are going if you return in the fall. If things are still rough, it may be time to look at options, even though it's not a good time.

Practically, I think you might want to nose around a little bit this summer to see if there's another position available to you. There's always a lot of teacher movement a

few weeks before school starts. Some teachers don't want to quit their current position until they have another contract in hand. Others decide to retire or move and those positions end up being filled by someone looking for a job in August. If you keep checking in with your district or area you may find a position you feel will be a better fit. Above all, once you've made your real, last and final decision, don't feel guilty. You need to do what is right for you. That's really what turns out to be right for your kids as well.
