taking control
By Karen

Clip to ScrapBook
I believe the bottom line is consistency. Lay out the framework first- spend the first couple of weeks laying this groundwork. Demonstrate/role play how and when to use the pencil sharpener, how to walk in line, what to do
when they are finished work, etc... set up routines and practice them.... in the middle of another lesson- ask- what would you do if you had to go to the bathroom now? Also have a way of getting the attention of your class- countdown, lights out, rainstick, patterned clapping, whatever and practice that as well... students NEED structure and they need reminders- especially in 2nd grade
of how school works- what is appropriate and not... AND last but not least- if you say you are going to do it- do it... so be careful with idle threats- no recess for the rest of the year, they know you don't mean it... best of luck- I odn't know HOW you are going back in 2 weeks!!
