silent reading
By Karen

Clip to ScrapBook
You can set up rotations for kids to come through- or better- you go to them... ask them what they are reading, talk to them, ask some questions- favorite part of the book, how do you think it will end...also can have a writing time about the silent reading- ask them to write a short summary, draw a picture, reactions, opinions, etc... in a notebook- that way the kids are accountable for what they do. Have a goal for the silent reading- are you doing a book report or a book talk- like the reading rainbow book talks by kids... we also do AR and find that helping the kids remember what they read by these interactions are especially helpful when taking the tests...
