Congratulations! Do you know Dr. Jean Feldman's CD's. They are wonderful for K plus her other ideas. You need lots of books and can find wonderful bargains at Thrift Stores and Garage Sales. I have hundreds of books that| I have bought for only 10 - 25 cents sometimes. YOu can also find stuff for centers at these places too without spending too much of your own money. I was at Garage Sales today and found treasure. Rubber alphabet stamps for 25 cents, plastic animals figures and one lady gave me two huge boxes of little toys and stuff kids love for $2. (This will be good for my Treasure Box. I also | | went to Lakeshore Learning where they have wonderful materials but they are so expensive. I just think, I'll have to work harder at the Thrift Stores. I actually found last week a table-top white board and chalk board stand thing for $2, brand new which costs about $30 at Lakeshore. You can also make a lot of things yourself. I just bought a large circle punch at Michaels (with a half-price coupon, of course) and am making "cookies" with a number on one side and corresponding number of stick on dots the other side. I will laminate them, put them on a cookies sheet or similar and have kids flip them with plastic spatula. They could look for pairs, or count the dots and then check the answer on the other side. I could go on but feel free to email me if you have other questions. Have you read Harry Wong's book and also Fred JOnes is good too for classroom management? Good luck in your new job.
