Hi, I hope I can give you a few ideas. Are you familiar with Reading Recovery or ERE? They are set up well. We use a variation of this in my school. Start with a high frequency word and practice writing it several times. Then write it on an index card for future review. With a second grader you may want to do several a day. Then read a warm up book from the day before. Next do a new book. Finally do a journal page or a cut up sentence.
