Clip to ScrapBook
My campus was departmentalized in 4th-6th for many years. Year before last third grade asked to join in that. We had two sections with two teachers per section. Two classes had reading/language arts in the morning and two
had math. We switched in the afternoon and then each teacher taught her own science and social studies that we team planned. To avoid the organization problems that happen with young students we kept pencils, paper and books in each room for each student and they just carried zipper bags with crayons and scissiors back and forth. We also planned amounts of homework together so that we didn't
overwhelm anyone. We felt it worked very well. Unfortunatly, our new principal didn't agree and we have all been switched back to self-contained. We would much rather be departmentalized.
