volunteering at elementary school

I think volunteering sounds like a great idea. My church has started this mentor program at a local elementary school where church members go and tutor children. The only problem to that is that it is a low income school with minority students. I've only dealt with upper middle class kids, but it should give me a feeling of what teaching is like. I myself would never work at a school like that, but I do like the kids. I used to volunteer with our after school program where the kids came to our church. I've just never gone to their school before. But I know a lot of the other college students from my church that do it, and they seem to like it. And the only requirement is 1 hour a week!!!
