Assignment books
By Beth

Clip to ScrapBook
I have used the book to record test scores, make comments about P.E. class or presentations that parents don't see. With difficult students it stays on the desk all day (ours are small) and I make the appropriate comments
as needed - hopefully a happy face or similar positive. The book serves as a reminder to work and behave. To make sure the kids take it home every night and parents look for it, 20 minutes of reading was assigned every night and the students recorded book title, pages read and a new word learned on a line. These were counted towards reading marks. Love the ideas above too.

Oh yeah,

if a book goes missing for more than a day, call home and leave a reminder to bring it to school. Don't let kids out the door at night without holding it up and putting it in their bookbags. If they are small enough to leave out on desks all day they can be signed and checked as you circulate during the day. I also staple lost book and missing work reminders in them. I make these removable so that students can keep them as a positive record of their year in most cases.
